How to Accessorize with a Romper or a Jumpsuit

One of the hottest trends this year is the romper or jumpsuit – an incredibly adorable one-piece item of clothing that is equal parts playful, flirty, casual and fun.

The perfect romper will flatter your body type and give off an energetic, summery vibe. It can be worn with sandals and a sunhat for a day on the beach, or dressed up with heels and jewellery for a night on the town. We have a beautiful range of rompers and jumpsuits for all body types, including the sexy and casual Emily Crochet Bohemian off Shoulder Romper:

and the bold and striking Blanca Scallop Lace Fuchsia Romper:

However, it can sometimes be a challenge to find the right accessories to wear with your jumpsuit or romper. What should you choose to complement this particular item of clothing? It might take you a little while to find the right jumpsuit for your body type and to choose the perfect accessories to wear with it. Here are some tips for choosing the right accessories with your romper or jumpsuit:

Where Will You Be Wearing It?

The first step when considering how to accessorise your jumpsuit is to think about where you are going to wear it. If you are going to be wearing in on a beach holiday you will want to choose accessories that will be practical for the setting, such as a large-brimmed hat, sunglasses and sandals. A great style of sandal to wear with your jumpsuit would be wedges or espadrilles in cork or cotton or strappy leather sandals.

If you are wearing the jumpsuit for shopping around town in the daytime, perhaps pair it with a chic blazer and a pair of ankle boots for a smart casual look. You can even wear a blouse underneath it in cooler weather.

If you plan on wearing a slightly dressier jumpsuit for a night out on the town, such as the Taylor Black Cut out Halter Jumpsuit, you will want to pair it with some sexy high heels and a sparkling necklace.

Add a Belt to Define Your Waist

One of the dangers of wearing a jumpsuit is that if it is a little bit loose and flowing it can start to look a bit shapeless. A nice belt around your waist can really define your waistline and make you look more shapely and feminine.

The belt that you choose will depend on the length of your torso and your overall height – so taller girls with longer torsos will benefit from wider belts. If you are shorter and have a short torso you would look best with a narrow belt.

Wear Your Hair Up with Backless Styles

If you have long hair and you will be wearing a backless jumpsuit style, such as the Alexis Backless Jumpsuit, consider wearing your hair up or to the side. With an open back jumpsuit the focus is on the beautiful bare skin of your back, so you don’t want your hair to cover it up. Wearing your hair up will not only keep you cool in hot weather, but it will show off your shapely back and neck in a beautiful way.

Make a Contrast

You can accessorise your romper or jumpsuit in a very striking way by creating a contrast and pairing it with the opposite type of style. For example, if you are wearing a sweet, feminine and flowy pastel jumpsuit you can accessorise with a tough looking leather jacket and chunky metallic jewellery. Or, if you are wearing a very sleek and simple jumpsuit you can accessorise with complex and ornate jewellery so that the attention is on its intricacy.

Whenever Possible, Add Heels

A jumpsuit can sometimes look like a very casual utilitarian piece of clothing, but you can always avoid looking like a plumber by wearing a pair of bold and daring heels with it. The heels will instantly transform the jumpsuit and make it feminine and sexy. Make sure that the heels are good quality so that they will be more comfortable to wear and will not cause your feet pain after a long day of looking fantastic.

Don’t Go Overboard

A jumpsuit should be offset with accessories, but you don’t need to wear a lot of jewellery in order to get the look. Sometimes it is much more impactful to choose one or two pieces of jewellery to focus on, such as a cuff bracelet or bangle, a pair of beautiful dangling earrings or a long strand of pearls. If you are wearing a statement bracelet and a pair of earrings, you might not also need to add a necklace, as this might be too much.

Keep in mind that you will also be wearing a bag, shoes and a belt so you don’t want your overall ensemble to be too complicated. The old saying goes “less is more” and it certainly applies in this situation.

These are a few tips to keep in mind when you are choosing accessories to wear with your jumpsuit or romper. Of course, no two rompers are alike and the look that you choose will be tailored to your unique sense of style and taste. Experiment with different looks and try on a wide range of romper and accessories, so that you can find the ideal look for you.
